Description

The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel (Togail Bruidne Dá Derga) is a story from Irish mythology's Ulster Cycle. The tale, which has survived in three Old and Middle Irish versions, recounts the life, birth, and demise of Conaire Mór, the son of Eterscél Mór, a legendary High King of Ireland. Conaire is killed by his enemies at Da Derga's hostel after breaking his geasa. A geasa is an idiosyncratic taboo which is often a key device in hero tales, with the violation of one leading to the downfall of the heroes. The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel is considered one of the finest Irish sagas of the early period, comparable to the better-known Táin Bó Cúailnge.
